the golden bouzouki outline

well folks, here it is, the outline for the golden bouzouki.
a lot of effort was put forth by jay in typing this and filling in gaps with genius.

                        Johnny and The Golden Bouzouki
Outline:

ACT I

Opening Song.  Johnny out on the town on some errand for his dad, the village blacksmith.  We see lots of scenes of village life like wine making, bean counting, philosophers debating, plate breaking, whatever.  Johnny crashes into all of these scenes, sings a bit and moves on.  Everyone loves Johnny.

Johnny hears of a lion or bear that has been seen on the outskirts of town.  He goes and fights it, defeating the beast with his bare-hands.

Now we meet the King (or Queen) and his son.  In his chambers, the king talks to his advisors about the threat of the war mongering Spartans, who have designs on the village.  The village is no match militarily for the Spartans, so an alternative solution is needed.  The Golden Bouzouki!  A bouzouki expert is brought in and drops some exposition on the bouzouki and its powers.  The King (or Queen) decides to host a contest to find the mightiest warriors to go seek the bouzouki.  The winner will be declared captain, and given his pick of men to go with him.

Johnny returns to his dads workshop, bearing a large scar across his chest.  Dad is working in the back on a mystery project.  He excitedly tells his dad about the lion.  Dad begins telling Johnny that the lion is a sign of dark days to come, and that the only thing that can bring peace to the land is The Golden Bouzouki! and the king is planning on sending the world’s greatest heroes on a quest to recover it.

The Contest of Heroes!  All the world’s mightiest and bravest heroes meet the call for champions.  Hercules! Herekles! Maciste! Ajax! Sam! Sam’s Son! Son of Sampson!  Sisyphus! The contest is held.  Its either some sort of battle royal, or a series of Greek games.  Whatever, Johnny wins.  He picks his crew from the heroes, as well as one old guy, whose a bit of a Socrates type.

Johnny returns to say goodbye to his dad, and finds him dying.  But, with his dying breath he has completed his secret project: The Memphis Edge!  A blade so sharp it can cut through bronze.

Act II

The crew set sail.  The whole village turns out to wish them good luck.  But the King (or Queen) has maneuvered their son into a place on the crew.  We overhear the King (or Queen) telling the son that he needs to delay the crew from returning for as long a possible.

At sea, the crew get lost in a fog.  They find themselves in a treacherous stretch of water, with the way blocked by many hazardous rocks.  Among the rocks live a Merman and several mermaids.  At first they refuse to help Johnny, but he sings them a song, and they see that his heart is pure, and lead the ship to a safe passage.

The ship makes landfall in the morning.  The crew come ashore for provisions and to consult the oracle on this island.  The oracle is said to be the only one who possess the knowledge of The Golden Bouzouki’s location.  Outside the temple they meet a friendly Centaur, who has just come from the oracle, and points them to the temple, located atop a mountain.  The crew leaves Sisyphus and his boulder behind to watch the ship and climb up to the temple.  Only Johnny goes inside.  It’s trippy.  Johnny must fight his doppelganger in order to be admitted to speak with the oracle.  He wins, and is told how to find The Golden Bouzouki!

The crew sets sail, and Johnny content that his quest is going pretty good, lies under the stars and sings a quiet song.  He falls asleep, and has a dream that he is really the son of Zeus.

Act III

In the day the ship is attacked by a flock of seagulls, lead by a giant, two-headed seagull.  A fight scene ensues.  The crew win, but the sail is damaged.

Adrift, low on food and moral, the crew plan a mutiny.  Urged on by the poisonous tongue of the King’s (or Queen’s) son.  Johnny soothes the crew’s misgivings by singing something along the lines of “It’s a mighty long way from here to home”. It’s a pretty big number, with the crew getting pumped and jumping around the ship.  In the end the crew remember that they love Johnny, and throw the King (or Queen)’s son overboard, blaming him for their misfortunes.

In the night a storm is brewing.  The ship is getting rocked, and to top it all off there’s a sea monster.  The ship is smashed by the beast and the crew is thrown overboard.  Johnny manages to find a piece of wreckage and surf to shore.  But, exhausted from his ordeal, collapses once he gets there.

Johnny awakes to find himself a captive of the Amazon women, whom inhabit this land.  The Amazon Queen, first sentences him to die, but Johnny talks her into letting him fight for his life.  Him against their finest warrior.  Johnny and the amazon warrior battle it out, and she bests him, but just as she is about to deliver the killing blow she stops.  She can’t do it, for she has fallen hopelessly in love with Johnny.  She agrees to help him escape.  Johnny and her gather the five (or whatever) herbs and spices and invent a powerful drink: ouzo, or Zeus Juice.  They get the amazons drunk, and Johnny performs a number with the Amazons.  They party hard, and pass out.  Johnny escapes,  but his amazon lover stays behind.

Johnny sets out by land to get The Golden Bouzouki.  When he arrives at the temple, he finds the door guided by Togolos!  Togolos, a Greek, bronze robot monster!  He starts out only a few feet tall and Johnny mocks him, but as he gets madder he grows taller.  Soon he is as tall as the temple itself.  While fighting with the monster, we see a pair of feet run past and into the temple.  Johnny, realizing that he can’t beat Togolos! Decides on another plan.  He keeps insulting Togolos! And making him madder and bigger, until he is so big that the planet can’t support him, and he floats off into space.  And that’s where the constellation Togolos comes from!

Johnny enters the temple to find The Golden Bouzouki gone!  The King’s son (or Queen’s) has beaten him to it.  We find out that the King (or Queen) never intended to save the village, and the whole journey was a ruse.  The son tricks Johnny into falling into a trap, and runs off.  Johnny now stuck in a hole with spiked walls that are closing in, must use all his strength to hold them off.  Eventually he breaks it somehow and climbs out the pit.

Outside the temple he once again meets the centaur, who is on a pilgrimage to visit all the temples in Greece.  He mounts the centaur and together they chase down the bad guy, overtake him, and recover The Golden Bouzouki.

The centaur will only take Johnny as far as the shore, so Johnny prays to Neptune for a strong wave, and starts to surf back to the village.  Meanwhile, we cut to the village to see all the sets from the opening now empty.  Where are all the people?  Here they are: being rounded up and tortured by the Spartans, as the King (or Queen) looks on.

On his way back Johnny sings a reprise of the “Mighty Long Way” song.  He encounters the members of his crew, one by one, floating at sea and he picks them up, giving them a ride on the ever crowding surfboard.  We cut between these goofy scenes of Johnny singing and surfing, the villagers getting beat.

Johnny arrives home to find the village in chaos.  He and the crew make their way to the town square, where the beatings are happening.  He whips out The Golden Bouzouki in order to bring peace to the crowd.  Johnny hits a solitary chord, opens his mouth to sing, then he does, and the world blooms in peace and prosperity forever. and thats how america came to be.

  1. so there it is. and quite a piece of work it is.
i think we should have some female heroes at the games.
and maybe the merpeople(as they like to be called) can give johnny something that he uses later in the plot. maybe the recipe for zeus juice.

  2. Female heroes? Are you nuts? Actually, I just wanted to test out the comments, cause I heard they weren't working.

  4. Not to look back too much, but what are the chances of getting a copy of "Snow Buddies" for myself. Also it might be good to have copies to sell to people at any "benefit" events. Like that benefit in Sacto we did for Lurches movie night. Glad we could help him out, but I'm sure others would liked to have had a copy of "Snow Buddies" to put under the Xmas tree this year. What can I do to make this happen?

  5. that sure was a cool benefit we played.
next time we should pay to play.

  7. Maybe we should introduce the Amazon Warrior at the contest, and set up her and Johnny's fling. WE can hold back the info that she's an amazon, but just say she's from a mysterious land. That way it's a bit of a surprise when we meet her again.

  8. great idea jay.
i was also thinking that they arent "amazons", but that johnny keeps calling them amazons.
maybe some jokes related to that.

  9. what if johnny sort of represented the americanized perspective of the translations of the hercules/machiste movies?
    ie: amazons.
sort of like there are some deeeper ideas and characters, but johnny simplifies everything into really recognizable patterns.
like calling the seagulls "harpies" and stuff.

    here is a sample:

machiste: look, a bunch of seagulls, and that one's huge!
    heracles: it has two heads!
hercules: they're coming right for us!
    theseus: look out!
johnny : i've heard old stories about harpies, they attacked men sometimes. that must be what these are. harpies.
socrates-like-guy: i dont think so, johnny. harpies are much worse looking.
