Let's shoot this fucker
One of the things that I wanted to get done at the retreat, but totally forgot about thanks to booze, was to set a rough date for shooting. Obviously we're going to need a lot of sunlight, so the summer is the time to do it. But what works best for people? I think we have a window of late June through early September when we can get some nice sunny days on the coast. August tends to be a pretty hectic month for a lot of people, so I'm going to suggest we don't do it then.

it also is apparent to me that this is going to take more time to film than other things we have done. plus we have location shooting, and green screen shooting, and background shooting (for the green screen) plus the special effects shots.
ReplyDeleteso im thinking a month of weekends, plus a bunch more random pickups.
hopefully some of the cast will be able to commit to this kind of schedule, and the others will just fill in when they can.
this will also determine the casting.
Can I be a producer or an assistant producer?
ReplyDeleteId like to design a shooting schedule. That way we know what to shoot on what day. Of course execs and the director have final say n shit but if we/I do up a thing we can tell people what is up.
I also want to play Michael Jackson as the shitty son. I really want to do a choreographed dance. Is that out of the question? I mean the whole MJ thing.
Since Im the producer Ive got two more things.
ReplyDelete1. No cursing Jay...
2. Lets have a writing session at Russian Records (aka me and some other peoples house) where we write the first scene.
I love the idea of a shooting schedule. That being said, I can't say I know what my schedule is for next summer just yet. I will definitely have more rather than less free time than I do now. I expect I'll have a short tour with the pizzas somewhere in the summer, but nothing is planned yet.By May we should hopefully have:
ReplyDelete1 Characters and a general casting of
2 Props list
3 Locations scouted
4 A green screen
5 A very rough shooting schedule
6 Ouzo
Fourth of July weekend might be a good time for a bit of shooting. Most people have it free and I'm sure we'd all like to hang together that weekend anyways. My place is still open for filming at any time. The beach is 20 minutes away, lots of rolling hills, and plenty of room for Mr. Diamonds trailer in the cast lot. We also have Santa Cruz. Any other locations?
other locations:
ReplyDeletewaddel creek area beaches.
the exploratorium (greek looking steps)
big sur (that beach was cool)
That beach at Big Sur was siiiiiiiick. It should be the background for any green screen sailing scenes. A beasty coming through that crack in the rocks that the waves roll directly through, awesome!!
ReplyDeleteI was thinking the exploratorium too, but thought there may be too much foot traffic there.
The old museum in GG park woulda been sweet, anything left of that?
Stuff:
ReplyDelete1. The King's son has kinda been called already. But again, casting is gonna all come down to who is available. Though I'm not feeling the MJ thing.
2. A shooting schedule is a great idea, and will come in pretty handy. We will probably need to divide the scenes into blocks, what scenes need a lot of people or can be done by just a few, what locations are needed for each scene, etc.
2. Big Sur would be great, but seems like a lot of trouble and time to get everyone down there to shoot. I'm sure there are just as amazing beaches near SF that would be easier to get to.
3. Using somewhere like Dillon's or Hod's as a base camp is a good idea, if it's cool with them, so we can get everyone together and then make trips to the locations from there.
4. Maybe we should take a day or two this January to scout locations around the bay area. Doesn't Golden Gate park have some Greek style buildings?
5. One thing that's been vexing me, location-wise, is that we're going to need an indoor area to build some sets in. Somewhere big enough for the boat set and green screen. Any ideas?
There's a shack right next to my house that is old, rickety, and could easily serve as a below deck boat scene.
ReplyDeleteIt also has some pretty wide open space to work in.
You know what buildings are pretty Greek? Frat Houses
TOGA TOGA TOGA TOGA TOGA!!!!
It took me a while to figure this site out. I'm commenting right now, right? I'm free pretty much all of the time's that have been suggested so far.
ReplyDeleteHow is the soundtrack going to work? Will there be a group recording session like the first movie? Or are people freelancing? Those are my first questions and comments.
my house is wide open to anything anytime regarding this production. august sounds perfect. i'm always free.
