a trailer

i made a storyboard for a trailer we can shoot soonish to get our kickstart.com or whatever some extra zing, as well as stimulating interest among the cast and crew.
it could look sweet.
i think we can record it on video in one day easy in santa cruz.
i'll have to do a few effects shots after the fact, but it should be a fairly quick little bit of test footage and fun.

we need to get some costumes together first though.

we need :
johnny(sheet, belt, sandals,necklace,bracers, bouzouki, pomp, chops,sword)
some ancient mythological greek villagers(sheets and belts and sandals)
a couple of spartans (laconians)(red sheet, skirt, sndals, shinguards, bracers, helmets, swords, spears, belts)
a horse (hod's neighbor's?)
an actor acting like a centaur wearing a great wig.(wig, bow, fur)
and that's it.

the actors dont need to be consistant with the movie parts, but i'd love to get dillon as the centaur.

im thinking maybe late february or early march?

then we start recording REAL video in june/july.

i guess we can change the shot order to make it make a bit more sense, but anyway that's the idea.

  1. Sounds great. Two things:
    1. I'd like the trailer to be book-ended by bits where Diamonds and the director explain the movie. Or the director does, and Johnny thinks about other things

    2. I'd really like to get this done as early as possible. Since it's gonna be tied directly into us getting some money, I really would like to get a little cash soon to start buying props and stuff.

  2. I vote for even before Johnny and the director explaining anything the sound of a sword being unsheathed played. Then an image of some thing Greek.

The song on the trailer has got to be epic as well. "Snow Buddies" was great and all but this is about the Greek empire.

Phil I think we should make the swords here at the Bro-Jo. We got lumber already. Just skill saw em and the paint em up.

For helmets I think a trip to the thrift store would suffice. We buy some plastic bowls Then we paint them the required color and decor. Face guards may be a different story though. Cardboard?

  3. Use the cloth-foam and some metallic paint for the helms and armor. Bear trap style!
    Ps I love foam-cloth
    Foam clotho

  4. how soon is soon? i mean i've got endless 'soon' the horses are winter-skinny and ready to look 10lbs heavier. i'll start prop savaging tomar.

  5. im way into foam clotho's idea. i was thnking of using yoga mat, but foam cloth is probably cheaper.

instead of bowls , though, i am thinking of batting helmets or other such easilly found thrift store helmets, with the bills cut off.

i have one batting helmet that was used for cobra commander and later for brodis' helmet in the apen emerald.
i am going to make a prototype in the next few days.
    pictures will be forthcoming.

we might just use a cardboard cutout for the boat in the trailer. then shoot jay in front of the greenscreen and superimpose the boat into a shot of the ocean, and superimpose jay onto the boat.
it'll look weird, but the audience will recognize the need for money to make it look (a little bit) better.

  6. Trailers don't need to make sense. They just need to make people think "there's some cool looking stuff in that movie".

Will we have the green screen ready to go by then? Or can we maybe use Noel's if we don't?

  10. k great. what do you guys think of a bunch of burlap sacs for cheap peasant costumes? hole in the top with rope belt, nuthin underneath, like god intended.

  11. money and time saving measure: the sandal issue(ya i just made it an issue) so johnny invents the flip-flop - we buy a bunch of cheap flip-flops
johnny presents them to the men like this: "men, we will be on our feet a great deal in the days to come, so i've invented a stronger, lighter, simpler sandal constructed with a base of goats hide and a Y-like band of horse intestine that slips between your bigith and second toe. i've found they make a pleasing sound as you tread forward... this is not a lazy mans shoe men!"
maybe that's how TOGOLOS is alerted to their presents, a huge procession of ''flip...flop..flip flop'' echos through the valley
i hope this movie is 3 hours long

  12. i just realized joel said "flip-flops will work"
i think he's right! read the above posted

  13. flip flops, with some extra stapping going up the calf of the wearer.

ps. "biggith toe" is pretty sweet terminology.

  14. then it's settled. the sandal issue will not be the bigith of expenses

  15. good call on the flips. is there a prop or costume that still needs making for the trailer? i could do that.
